A Longitudinal Study Tracking Outcomes For Excluded Young
People
The aim of this study is to consider the long-term effectiveness
of multi-disciplinary approaches to meeting the needs of
disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded young people beyond the life
of the project/intervention.
The aims of the research are to:
- Track and closely monitor the progress and destination of a
sample of young people who have been excluded from school
- Gather information on those young people's experiences and
activities as they negotiate their transition to adulthood
- Demonstrate the outcomes of different approaches to
intervention and reflect upon their cost effectiveness
The research team is using a range of methods to
engage and track a large sample of young people aged 15+ years who
have been excluded from school and have been targeted with support
from different agencies. The focus is on each young
person's ability to sustain a viable education, training or
employment placement and to steer clear of 'at risk' behaviour,
particularly any involvement with the criminal justice system.
The four year study is due to finish early in
2007.
