The Consultant Leaders Supporting the Leadership Capacity within London's PRUs and EBD Schools Programme is fully funded by the National College for School Leadership - London Challenge and focuses on Consultant Leaders providing support, coaching and mentoring within a London PRU or EBD school.  The Consultant Leaders visit their supported school on a flexible one day per week basis, telephone and email support is also provided.  All the Consultant Leaders are headteachers of PRUs or EBD schools and have a track record of excellent leadership.  This programme aims to impact on four key areas in participant PRUs/ EBD schools:

  • Improvement in student motivation and behaviour CfBT Inspections website front page
  • Improved staff recruitment and retention levels
  • Narrowing of the achievement gap throughout integration of the 14-19 agenda
  • Improvement in leadership potential and succession planning.

The programme is open to all PRUs and EBD schools within London who wish to benefit from joining the Consultant Leader network.

Impact

Since the pilot year in 2005/2006 the programme has shown that 100% of the participating schools reported associated benefits arising from their work with Consultant Leaders, with most schools choosing to work on more than one area.  The programme is reported to have been associated with a number of improvements including several institutions which have received improved Ofsted inspection reports, and one of these schools coming out of special measures.
