NAME is the professional association which
represents all those involved in music education: advisers,
inspectors, consultants, teachers in schools, instrumental
teachers, heads of instrumental services, lecturers working in
teacher education and in conservatoires, community musicians,
publishers and other retailers. We work closely with other
organisations to influence and develop policy and practice in all
aspects of music in education. These include government departments
such as the Department for Children, Schools and Families
(DCSF), the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the
Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) and the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as well as other
professional associations such as the Music Education Council
(MEC), the Federation of Music Services (FMS) and the Schools Music
Association (SMA). NAME’s other key activities include the
publication of a range of books, magazines and bulletins, an annual
conference, and regional networks.
The National Association of Music Educators
exists to support its members in the development of music education
of the highest quality, which is accessible to all. This is
achieved by: -
- Contributing to the creation of a strong and
unified voice for music education nationally
- Providing a forum for professional exchange
through local, national and regional events
- Promoting the professional development of
members
- Informing members of current developments by
publications and newsletters
- Collaboration with other appropriate
organisations
