Young Gifted & Talented Programme
Information for Parents/Carers
As a parent/carer, you play an important role in the
identification and development of a gifted and talented
learner. Working with your child, the school and the local
authority will ensure that the very best support and access to
resources is available.
How do I know if my child is gifted and/or
talented?
Read through the eligibilty criteria (under Quick Links) on the
YG&T website for information to help you. While this
information is primarily aimed at school and college staff, it
includes guidance on identification published by the Department for
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). You should also
discuss this with the school's leading teacher for gifted and
talented.
I think my child is gifted and talented. How do I
ensure that they can get access to the YG&T programme?
The Young Gifted & Talented (YG&T) programme is provided
for gifted and talented learners in maintained primary and
secondary schools or colleges in England. Your child can
access it, free of charge, through the YG&T website.
Do also contact the G&T co-ordinator or leading teacher for
G&T in your child's school or college for more
information. If this is not possible, please get in touch
with the G&T lead in your local authority who will help
facilitate contact with the school or college involved.
