Introducing CfBT Academies

As the country’s leading specialist not-for-profit education consultancy, CfBT Education Trust is dedicated to developing best practice and provision in support of learners. At the heart of our work is the drive to raise aspirations, expectations and the educational achievement of all members of the community. With an Academy sponsored in partnership with CfBT Education Trust, this vision becomes a reality.

CfBT Academies succeed through codes of self-discipline, mutual respect, self-worth and pride in the reputation and identity of the Academy.

CfBT-sponsored Academies aim to create:

  • schools where every teacher is a leader and every student readily accepts a responsibility for and commitment to their own learning programme.
  • learning environments where action research, the development of best practice and the sharing of excellent teaching is the accepted norm.
  • opportunities which attract the ‘best of the best’ teachers with structures and a curriculum that will challenge current practice and promote innovative new practice.
  • the establishment of training schools within schools for the development of Advanced Skills Teachers and new graduate teachers. The benefits to learners within the school are further enhanced by a learning philosophy that embraces such notions as social enterprise, global citizenship, a respect for inquiry and reflection and a commitment for all learners to grow and develop through a broadening of their own learning horizons.

With the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education and Toc H, CfBT is the joint sponsor of St. Mark’s Academy, Merton.
