CfBT encourages schools to know themselves and to understand the
value of objective, evidence-based evaluation. School evaluation
provides a means to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of
a school and forms an important a part of the process of quality
assurance. It also provides an informed basis for future school
improvement and effective development.
There are a number of different approaches to school evaluation,
although most include the process of school self-evaluation as an
important element of the school inspection or quality review
process.
An effective school knows itself well and evaluates its provision
and performance in a robust and inclusive manner. Self-evaluation
lies at the heart of many inspection systems, but there may be a
multiplicity of approaches, which schools can take to
self-evaluation, which need to be considered. Schools that have
effective criteria aligned to structures and processes for judging
their effectiveness, quality of provision and capacity to improve
are well placed to identify their strengths and weaknesses and are
more likely to have well targeted development plans, which have
real impact outcomes for their students.
CfBT has substantial experience in the field of quality assessment
and inspection, which ranges from supporting ministries in running
inspection systems to conducting individual inspections, reviews
and audits.
