GOING FOR GROWTH IN WORLDWIDE EDUCATION

Delegates from all over the world are meeting at the University of Oxford this week for the 9th UKFIET International Conference on Education and Development when they will be discussing the impact of growth on education worldwide.


High-profile guests, including the Ugandan Minister of Education and Sport, the Honourable Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire and representatives from ministries of education in Chile, Vietnam and Cambodia, will join more than 300 delegates, representing 54 countries, at the conference from September 11 – 13. Plenary speakers include Professors Hugh Lauder, University of Bath; Julia Preece, President of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE); and Sugatha Mitra, University of Newcastle.


More than 200 papers from distinguished academics and education professionals will be presented over the three days covering 16 themes including, Growing Education in Difficult Environments, Education, Skills and Sustainable Growth, Non-State Providers and New Educational Systems, Higher Education for Economic Growth and Community Development: Potential, Problems and Politics.


“This year’s conference promises to be bigger and better than ever,” said UKFIET Chairman, David Theobald. “The Going for Growth topic has attracted some interesting and innovative examples of education practice and development from all over the world and we are looking forward to a large number of stimulating sessions which have attracted delegates from all over the globe.”
