AWARD-WINNING PROGRESSION TOOLKIT MAY HOLD THE KEY TO FUTURE CAREER SUCCESS

The innovative toolkit Getting Through The Maze designed by the information, advice and guidance service nextstep Berkshire, delivered by leading education charity CfBT Education Trust, has won a ‘Working with Adults’ award from the Institute of Careers Guidance at the National Career Awards 2007.

The toolkit, which was launched last year by nextstep Berkshire in conjunction with Aimhigher, a national initiative to encourage more learners from under-represented groups to access higher education, assists adults who are considering returning to study and helps them with applying to higher education institutes and the associated administration involved. There is a particular focus on progression for those in work and the various options open to them. The toolkit is designed to act as an aid for experienced guidance practitioners to use when delivering group progression workshops. Included in the toolkit are four main units; preparing to study, progression pathways, choosing an HE course and application process.

Lesley Reilly, nextstep Manager for CfBT Advice & Guidance, said, “I am delighted by this award, which recognises both the knowledge and expertise of CfBT’s guidance practitioners. This toolkit offers an entertaining and imaginative way for skilled practitioners to work with adults thinking or planning their route through HE. It also gives vital information about the range of HE routes and includes information on foundation degrees. It comes thoroughly recommended to guidance practitioners and is particularly useful when delivering group progression workshops.”
