CFBT EDUCATION TRUST'S INCLUDE CELEBRATES OFSTED REPORT

include, CfBT Education Trust’s charity dedicated to supporting young people at risk of social exclusion, is celebrating today after its Norwich-based centre received a commendable inspection report from Ofsted. Seven areas of inspection were officially rated ‘good’ including the standard of education provided, leadership and management and pupil progress.

Students are referred to include’s Norwich centre by the local authority because they have either been permanently excluded from mainstream or special schools or have exhibited long-term non-attendance at school. Often they have experienced a disrupted education and can present the include team with challenging behavioural issues. The team works with two groups; Year 10 and Year 11 and often with pupils who have some level of special needs including autism.

The Ofsted inspection, carried out from February 4-5, 2008, praised the standard of education provided to pupils and, in particular, the quality of teaching delivered which enables pupils to develop a range of skills to prepare them for the future. It also highlighted the fact that rates of attendance for most students improve greatly after admission and are consistently maintained, with the staff providing ‘excellent pastoral welfare and student support’.

The ways in which include works to tailor the curriculum to meet individual pupils’ needs was also commended in the report, as well as the team’s continued efforts to provide a range of activities designed to engage and promote the pupils’ learning.

Margaret Abbott, CfBT’s UK Services Director, said: “I am delighted that the hard work of the team in Norwich has been recognised in this report. They have done exceptionally well, and have worked consistently to develop the students not only educationally but personally and socially as well, giving each individual student the best possible support in often challenging circumstances and broadening their opportunities for the future. My thanks and congratulations go to the whole team”.
