Support
Induction and continuing
professional development are a central component in providing
a motivated and skilled workforce in schools. It is an integral
feature of school improvement and not something in competition with
it.
A high-quality and coherent
programme of workforce development stimulates and provides staff
with the developing knowledge, skills and understanding to address
the needs of an ever-increasingly complex role. It also helps
recruitment and retention when schools can guarantee a rewarding
and relevant training programme.
The School Improvement
Service recognises that individuals and their schools work in
complex institutions and much of the success of a school can be
attributed to the quality of its workforce. This valuable resource
is most effective when it is well trained. Workforce
development is now a more complex and multi-layered process with
much of the best taking place within schools or within partnerships
of schools. It is also something that should be available to all
those involved in schools and not just a select few.
