INTRODUCTION
MSSR is CfBT’s innovative approach to promoting and supporting
school improvement, placing school self-evaluation at the heart of
the process. Rather than responding to a categorisation by the LA
based solely on performance data, Lincolnshire schools are
encouraged to draw on the results of their own evaluation of
practice and performance to assess the level of support they need.
MSSR has been redesigned to take account of the new Inspection
Framework and schools are invited to judge their performance and
practice against a range of carefully crafted benchmark statements
aligned with national expectations and criteria.
The process of self-review is now a continuous one; reflecting best
practice guidance. Schools and the School Improvement Service work
in partnership focussing on different sections throughout the year.
The school’s self-review is followed by rigorous and consistent
external verification by Link Advisers each term
THE MSSR APPROACH
- We believe that this approach offers considerable benefits to
schools because it:
- Concentrates on building capacity in schools
- Supports effective development planning
- Provides an explanatory tool
- Is an aid to target setting
- Highlights good practice
- Supports professional development
- Provides external verification for school’s judgements
- Is consistent with developing inspection practice
In Lincolnshire we have just completed a review of the MSSR
programme which was first introduced in the autumn term, 2002. As a
result the new revised MSSR process and supporting web-based
software was launched in September 2005 as part of the new
MYSTRATIS range of electonic school improvement tools.
The process of self-review is now a continuous one; reflecting
best practice guidance. Schools and the School Improvement
Service work in partnership focusing on different sections
throughout the year. The school's self-review is followed by
rigorous and consistent external verification the School's
Improvement Partner (by Link Advisers) on an agreed timbetabled
basis.
