Fully Funded Qualifications for School Support
Staff and Parent Support Advisers
Support work in schools qualifications enable school support
staff and parent support advisers to gain a nationally
recognised qualification that is tailored to their specific role in
school.
The qualifications are fully funded through the School
Improvement Service and providers will deliver the training within
school.
These qualifications provide new career development routes for
all school support staff, especially those with more than one role
in school. They are extremely flexible, to enable staff to access
training suited to their individual needs.
Benefits of SWiS
Benefits identified through the evaluation of the SWiS
qualifications pilot include:
- increased competency and skills to undertake role,
- increased confidence to work with pupils and school leadership
teams,
- improved understanding of school policy and procedures,
and
- increased contribution of support staff to the delivery of
extended services.

The TDA has developed an
endorsed pathway as part of the Support Work in Schools
qualification that recognises the skills and knowledge of staff
providing support for parents.
