Single Level Tests

Assessing pupils’ eligibility for the single level tests pilot

The following criteria must be used in establishing which pupils should be entered for the single level tests in December 2007.

Entry criteria for single level tests

  • Eligible pupils should be entered for a single level test once their teacher has established, through the use of the ‘Assessing Pupils’ Progress (APP): assessment criteria’ (or other similar assessment) that they are working securely at a particular level.
  • A pupil may be entered for a single level test if they have progressed by at least one level since their most recent end of key stage national curriculum test.
  • All pupils in Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 within schools are eligible to be entered for the single level tests if they clearly meet these criteria.
  • Pupils not meeting these criteria should not be entered.
