Leadership effectiveness and succession planning:             Cultivating excellence in leadership

Leadership strategy 2007 - 2010

Effective leadership is essential for achieving school improvement in order to transform children’s lives through raising their achievement and securing their well-being. Leadership is a function exercised by everyone. Developing leadership capacity and potential are vital for the continuing success of schools and our learners within them.

The purpose of this strategy is to:

  • summarise current priorities for development
  • review strategies for improving effective leadership
  • build capacity and capability
  • promote a diversification of models that both secure distributive leadership and prepare for future challenges.

This strategy has been prepared in full and renewed partnership between the Children’s Services Authority (CSA), East Sussex School Improvement Service and the National College for School Leadership (NCSL).
