Fast Track Teachers
The Fast Track Programme seeks to identify the School Leaders of
the future from current pre-threshold teachers, and is a valuable
way of providing enhanced pay and professional development
opportunities at no cost to your budget as well as being a
significant aid to recruitment, retention and motivation of
relatively new entrants to the profession.
Pre-threshold teachers who are eligible (they must normally have a
2:1 degree or a 2:2 under certain circumstances) and who are
successful at the assessment centre receive a £2000 salary
enhancement, a laptop package, and are eligible to bid for other
resources as well as having access to the Fast Track Professional
Development Programme, which is individually designed to develop
leadership skills. Additionally the school receives £1000pa to
cover, for example, the costs of providing a mentor. All these are
funded by the DCSF for up to five years per Fast Track
Teacher.
The programme, which also operates at PGCE level aims to ensure
that there are high calibre teachers who are excellent classroom
practitioners, who are being prepared to take leadership roles in
our schools in the future.
