Gifted & Talented
Definition and identification of G&T
Generally speaking, there is no fixed definition for the term
gifted and talented, although high ability is usually categorised
in six areas, namely: high intellectual ability; mechanical
ingenuity; physical talent; visual and performing abilities;
creativity; outstanding leadership and social awareness (DfEE 1995
+).
These areas continue to be recommended, both nationally and
locally, to support school and LA definitions. The East Sussex
School Improvement Service has produced, in consultation with
schools, a booklet of identifiers to support the identification and
planning process.
