National developments in education for 14-19
year olds are moving very fast. The elements of the government’s
14-19 strategy are:
- a strong foundation at Key Stage 3, which will involve
reducing the content to allow space for catch up and stretch ;
- Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT at levels 1, 2
and 3;
- 14 new specialised diplomas in vocational areas to be
introduced by 2013;
- changes to A levels to ensure they stretch the brightest
students.
