Civil Society and Grassroots Engagement with Policy and Progress in Education and Development

Convenor:

The involvement of local and non-state actors in community-level change has long been an important means of development. This sub-theme will explore various aspects of civil society and grassroots action in education and development, and its impact on local and national policy-making in order to better understand the parameters of the ability to deliver and facilitate progress at local levels. Topics of interest could include:

  • the interaction between policy and strategy in local-level education and development
  • the influence of local perspectives on national policy formulation and/or implementation
  • the influence of local language, culture and/or ethnicity on programme effectiveness
  • education and development at the local level: what does progress look like, and who decides?
  • the limits of the local: the role of the state in supporting grassroots endeavours in education and development.
