include’s behavioural change offer
include currently delivers the Turnaround
Project, sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government, in seven local
authority areas in South Wales, working with substance misusers who
have expressed a wish to change.
The Turnaround Project is an intensive 11-week, 25 hours a week
programme – the only programme of its kind in the UK – designed
specifically for young people who want to give up substance misuse
and offending habits.
Our pilot programme has enabled us to develop a range of
flexible models adapted to meet individual need, and includes
part-time programmes delivered weekly. The model of behavioural
change can be adapted for use with a range of vulnerable groups,
including care leavers, single parents, offenders, substance
misusers and those with a poor experience of education.
Using a cognitive behavioural approach Turnaround enables young
people to confront past thoughts, feelings and behaviour and
challenge their views by encouraging them to focus on their skills
and knowledge, developing self-confidence and a sense of worth.
